White House to celebrate "Memphis Soul"

As part of the "In Performance at the White House" series, President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will celebrate Memphis Soul on April 9 -- with a program that includes performances by Alabama Shakes, William Bell, Steve Cropper, Al Green, Ben Harper, Queen Latifah, Cyndi Lauper, Joshua Ledet, Sam Moore, Charlie Musselwhite, Mavis Staples and Justin Timberlake.

Booker T. Jones will serve as as music director and band leader. The event will be streamed live on whitehouse.gov/live and will be broadcast April 16 on PBS stations and at a later date via the American Forces Network to service men and women and civilians at U.S. Department of Defense locations around the world.

It'll be the 10th such event at the WH hosted by the Obamas since February 2009, marking Hispanic musical heritage, Black History Month, Motown and the Blues, Broadway and Country Music.
