Chelsea Clinton will serve as honorary chair of the 2013 National Day of Service, which will kick off the President Obama's second "inaugural weekend."
Inaugural committee chair Steve Kerrigan credited Clinton's work with the Clinton Foundation and recent efforts with Hurricane Sandy, saying that she "sets a remarkable example for serving and strengthening our country."
Clinton will join participants in all 50 states in service events on Jan. 19, and will headline a Service Summit on the National Mall. The first and second families will also participate in service events in the D.C. area Saturday.
Clinton -- whose father was twice inaugurated -- said there was "no more fitting way to mark a presidential inauguration than a day of service. Coming together as a country to strengthen our communities has always been part of the American spirit."
