White House defends President Obama's "bedroom slippers"

President Barack Obama's exortation Saturday night to the Congressional Black Caucus to "kick off your bedroom slippers" irked some in the crowd and the White House was still dealing with the backlash Thursday.

White House press secretary Jay Carney told reporters that Obama has made similar comments to other groups, looking to buck up supporters.

"He has certainly used similarly vivid language before a variety of audiences," Carney said in response to a question of whether some CBC'ers might have taken offense. "His fundamental message is ... those who support him and supported his candidacy in 2008 and who support the kind of agenda that he's put forward have a lot to be proud of in terms of the accomplishments that have been achieved in the last two-and-a-half years, that there is still much work to be done.

Carney was right on the "similarly vivid language" -- Obama two weeks ago in North Carolina exorted a crowd at North Carolina State University to "kick off our bedroom slippers and put on our marching shoes. We've got to get to work."
