House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will take a break from the tax cut wars Friday to head to Oslo, Norway, for the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony honoring Chinese human rights activist Liu Xiaobo.
He was sentenced to 11 years in jail last year for "inciting subversion of state power” after authoring an online petition by Chinese citizens urging the Chinese government to ease its stands on democracy and human rights. He remains imprisoned.
Pelosi has long been active in promoting human rights in China and Tibet. She had visited China last May and sought the release of Liu Xiaobo and others.
Next week, though, it's back to Congress. The Senate is expected to consider the tax cut bill, which extends all Bush-era cuts for two years, first, and the House of Representatives is expected to take it up early next week.

Before we get all lathered up here, we had better make the odious comparison between China and the U.S. as to “freedom of speech” and such efforts to obtain and keep the rights of citizens vis a vis the persecution of overpowering governments. There Liu Xiaobo, and there’s Julian Assange and Bradley Manning.

Keep your butt right here in the U.S. and get back to work there in Washington.
You don't need to burn money on any unnecessary trip to Norway.
And who's paying for the trip anyway ?
This is no time to be galavanting off somewhere about 5000 miles away.
See what you can do to tweak the Obama-McConnell deal a little. That would be a better use of your time.
You're supposed to HERE, representing the people of your district and, as a Congressional leader, the people of your country.
Not people in Norway or China.
