It's not the usual negative political ad with grainy footage, ominous music and a sinister voiceover, but it's still worth noting that PlayoffPac, a group that opposes college football's Bowl Championship Series launched a Web ad this week titled "It's Fixed," which pretty much sums up where the political action committee stands.
In the spot argues that over the past six seasons the BCS handed out $521 million more to six "privileged" athletic conferences than to five other NCAA Division I conferences. "'It's Fixed' shows that this $521 million disparity isn't based on team success, game attendance, or ratings," PlayoffPac co-founder Chad Pehrson said. "The BCS is little more than a vehicle for delivering legacy entitlements."
PlayoffPac has been pounding the halls of Congress, looking for support from lawmakers from states with colleges and universities that feel the current playoff system has worked against them. And lawmakers haven't been afraid to weigh in on the issue: President Barack Obama has repeatedly stated he doesn't like the BCS system.
