Republican national chairman Michael Steele sees the U.S. Congress not just as out of touch with the American people, but....
"I'm tired of the Congress thumbing their nose and flipping a bird to the American people," he told reporters in a conference call Monday. "I'm tired of this Congress thinking it knows better than me and my family how to provide for our health care now and in the future. And I'm tired of this Congress not listening to me and the American people, to all of us."
Later in the call, he re-emphasized his point:
"It just annoys and irritates me on something so fundamentally important that this Congress, this leadership, is so tone deaf and -- and so hell-bent on -- on propping up a -- a policy that the American people doesn't want, that they're willing to basically flip the bird to the America people on this issue and slip it in in the middle -- in the dead of night."
Steele was talking about the health care bill now being debated in the Senate. His comments came a few hours after the Senate, on a straight party line vote, agreed at 1:19 a.m. Monday to cut off a Republican-led filibuster.
"The fact that they would have this vote at the dead of night to me speaks to a cowardice, a cowardice that's reflected in this leadership in the Senate and, quite frankly, Democrats across the country who -- who dare not look the American people in the eye on this issue," Steele said.
"So this is a time for us now in the next few days just to call -- call it what it is, and this is a wholesale hijacking of our health care system in this country; one of the best, if not the best in the world."

God does not listen to these crazy people who pray for people to die or be hurt. Those people are the rabid right and God looks with disfavor on them

I agree with the title of this article. This administraton is bringing this country down quickly. Obama may tell people he has certain degrees and has studied Constitutional law but he is a liar in every aspect of his life. I hope he ends up like Tiger.

Mr. Clarke has a clear and in depth understanding of the Constitution of the United States of America. Why don't our Harvard educated elitists have knowledge of that God given document?

Obama likely knows that the Constitution does not mandate Americans be forced into a contractual agreement with a private party for health insurance as he was “a senior lecturer but not a constitutional professor so one assumes he at least has some knowledge of the principles of the Constitution.
“Nowhere in the Constitution is Congress given the power to mandate that an individual enter into a contract with a private party or purchase a good or service,” and No decision or present doctrine of the Supreme Court justifies such a claim of power.
Is it possible Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, and this new gang of sixty Senators, have not read Article I of the Constitution? It states that the government’s rights are limited. Article 1, Section 8 reads, “The Congress shall have Power … To regulate Commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states, and with the Indian Tribes.” It does not say a word about health care. The federal government only has the power to regulate trade between itself, foreign governments, and the states. NOTHING MORE.
History will record this gang of sixty Senators as the treasonous bunch of politicians who themselves succumbed to accepting 30 silver pieces and blindly following the orders of paid political special interest groups, unions and lobbyists, indirect opposition to the voters and in violation of the constitution they all have sworn to uphold, but apparently have not read.
Final passage of this structural reform health care bill will be yet another violation of the Constitution but it will be the most egregious one to date and a further circumcising and castration of the Constitution of the United States of America. God help us all.
PS. The USA Federal government was already bankrupt before this draconian piece of legislation was introduced and if passed will make a bad situation even worse!
