Amid the news of a string of car bombings in Baghdad today comes word that Iraq's presidency council has set the date for national elections. The vote will be March 6, six weeks after what had been hoped would be January elections.
The elections are considered critical to Obama's plan to get the U.S. troop presence down to 50,000 by next summer — perhaps more important than the ongoing bombings. U.S. officials show no interest in changing course in Iraq no matter what terror attacks may take place there.
