The nation's unemployment rate dropped slightly in July and though employment dropped by 247,000, those figures were less than expected, causing Democrats to offer cautious optimism. But not Republicans.
Their statements Friday rarely if ever mentioned the better news.
Some samples:
"While President Obama was taking a victory lap to celebrate the economy’s performance, more Americans lost their jobs and the budget deficit soared to a record $1.3 trillion in July. In the month of July alone 247,000 Americans lost their jobs, which means more than 2.8 million Americans have lost their jobs since the president took office," said Republican party chairman Michael Steele.
"The president said his stimulus bill would keep unemployment from rising higher than 8 percent. It hasn’t. Now he expects Americans to believe his trillion-dollar health care experiment will improve their health care? It won’t. America simply can’t afford more of the president’s costly experiments.”
Added Brian Walsh, spokesman for the party's Senate re-election committee: “As (Majority Leader) Harry Reid and President Obama attempt to cast today’s unemployment numbers as a victory for the Democrats, the fact remains that our country’s deficit has skyrocketed under this Administration and hundreds of thousands of Americans still lost their jobs during the month of July."
And House Republican Whip Eric Cantor, R-Va., weighed in with these thoughts:
“The American people have serious concerns about the economy, job creation and the unsustainable debt obligations incurred in the last seven months – and they don’t like what they see from the Administration and Congress. The resolve of small business job creators, American workers and entrepreneurs is strong, and we believe that empowering them to succeed is a far better option than the path chosen by the Administration and Democrats in Congress.
"Beginning in January, House Republicans laid out a serious and substantive agenda that put jobs first," he said. "House Democrats, along with the White House, instead took an unfocused, ‘go it alone’ approach that has fallen well short of its goals and has failed to create jobs.”

The Republicans are doing what every party not in power does, bad mouth the party in power. Folks, you are arguing that they care. Politicians don't care about you or I, they care about power and keeping it. The money they get from power certainly helps guide their thinking. Remember they don't care, you have to hold thier feet to the fire, kick them out of office after one term, and ignore most of what they say, otherwise you are not a citizen but a slave.

Bopper,
I fail students that are as stupid as you.

Bopper is completely false. Jimmy Carter presided over 4 budgets, none of which were balanced. All 4 contained deficits. Bill Clinton presided over 5 budgets that were a deficit & 3 that were a surplus. All 3 occured with a GOP controlled congress. George W Bush had one balance Budget with a GOP controlled congress.
A more accurate statement would be: In the past 50 years only GOP congresses passed balanced budgets

Sorry but the last administration should have been impeached bot the president and the VP for shoving an illegal and unnecessary war on US and shoving thru the patriot act which took away many of our rights.President Obama did not sign this bill you republican party did with the lies they told to get it passed from a public that was afraid after 9/11.This was used as an excuse for any number of illegal acts by the then administration.

grf67 let me be the first to point out to you George. W Bush ran an illegal wiretapping program, granted immunity to the telecom industry tried to remove habeas corpus as a fundamental constitutional right for all (sic)citizens and committed a number of human rights abuses as well as war crimes while he was in office.

The (G)eorge (O)rwell (P)arty also seems to have Alzheimers.
EVERY single Republican President for the last 50 years has NEVER had a balanced budget and has increased the deficit.
Just because they "say" they're for fiscal responsibility isn't shown to be true---EVER.
Amazingly, the ones that voted time after time for deficits, stick it to the middle class, economics and illegal financially irresponsible war in Iraq now want us to believe they changed their spots.
How about this question and answer.
""
How many republican presidents had deficit spending?
All of them.
In fact, of all the presidents in the last fifty years, exactly two of them didn't have deficit spending--Carter and Clinton, neither of whom was a Republican.
QUIT LYING TO US you fiscal rats.

peterclarke, where do you get this so called information? And wasn't it George Bush who did this for years under his so-called "USA PATRIOT Act"?

Having voted against every stimulus package and attacked the President for the economy, the republicans now live in fear the the economy will improve from the disaster left by bush and cheney. And the economy is improving - goodbye GOP. Hope you like the racist south.

Dirty illegal tricks by the Obama White House, Administration and his gang of czars.
This President’s illegal act of soliciting emails and conversations from citizens about information from one citizen against another American citizen has broken the law and he is not upholding the constitution that he was elected and sworn to do.
The news media is no where to be found these days when it comes to reporting facts or informing the public about illegal and unconstitutional acts.
This current attempt for erosion of the peoples civil liberties, being performed from the white house against the people of America has not been seen since the Nixon years. All criticism about Obama and his policies are labelled as racist, yet the only racist remarks keep emanating directly from and within the white house.
Criminal charges should be laid in a court of law against Obama and his administration and his unelected gang of czars for these unconstitutional and illegal acts against the American people.
It is also time for Congress and the Senate to hold hearings on the possible impeachment of this President for such illegal activities sponsored and directed from the white house.
