Maybe Palin wasn't persuasive enough?

Remember back to September, when Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was a newly minted vice-presidential candidate and she was asked by ABC's Charlie Gibson about drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and her split with her running mate, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.?

At the time, she told Gibson: "We'll agree to disagree, but I'm gonna keep pushing that, and I think, eventually, we're all gonna come together on that one."

Apparently Palin wasn't persuasive enough. Today, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee shot down Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski's effort to open up ANWR to directional drilling. The sole Republican to vote against the proposal? McCain.

The amendment, which came up during work on an energy bill, failed 10-13. Murkowski, the top Republican on the energy committee, has argued that directional drilling could be done from outside the refuge to tap reserves with its boundaries.

I wish McShame would just disappear into the woodwork like the RINO worm that he is. He is a disgrace to the republican party. Oh and take that useless daughter with you...

"We need to save Alaska's treasures like this for future generations and instead repower America with clean, renewable energy and efficiency measures that will save far more energy than the Arctic Refuge ever could."

Excrement on stilts.

We cannot "conserve" our way to energy sufficiency. We can either lower our standard of living, or increase our production of energy.

Pick one. Oh, you already have.

Freaking stupid!! The ANWAR drill site is only 80 miles from the pipeline array at Prudhoe Bay and its the same flat icy tundra as the rest of the North Slope. My Dad's been there and its a damn moonscape up there. What the Hell is McCain thinking of?

For those that speak of the "pristine beauty" of the area that is to be drilled...I suggest that you look at some actual photographs of the area and judge for yourself. There are some excellent pics and facts here for those unfamiliar with the area. You might want to see the real thing instead of what they show you on the idjit box.

I've lived in Alaska since 56 and have seen beacoup change in a short period of time.
The pipeline was supposed to kill off the Caribou. Their numbers increased during and after the construction thereof.
No doom and gloom scenario predicted for any of our industries has come true. I tend to doubt them on that basis.
The pictures that the media allows you to see are indeed within ANWR, but not in the area to be developed. And, if I'm not mistaken, the figures at the link for acreage are based on conventional drilling and not that which was proposed by my Senator. Much smaller footprint with directional drilling.
This has nothing to do with the environment, this is about destroying the economy in order to bring about the "fundamental change" that Dear Leader speaks and dreams of. Socialism in the guise of liberalism will be swallowed bit by bit if we allow ourselves to be fed.

I think that ArticPam should move there and live at least 5 years in a sleeping bag near a stream where the bears massacre the fish. This whole environmental scam was paid for by the Saudi's to keep the gas prices up, she's just a naif. For a few million dollars the whole environmental thing was organized by the Arabs and they made billions while our country is ruined. The only clean renewable energy there might be is nuclear and thats 10 years off. The enviridiots have killed our country.

AD

This is a vote that he will have to justify to the Primary voters in AZ, who (with the cost of gasoline increasing every day) will probably not be in any mood to give him a pass on it.

I guess energy independence, jobs to help stimulate the economy, cheaper energy to stimulate the economy, and a means to drill that does not impact the pristine nature of ANWAR are less important than the liberal agenda. Nice to know where the priorities lie.

Mc needs to go buy buy. Maby get a real job.

Hey buddy You can work your butt off paying for your energy bills while the Carabo screw.

I work like a dog so my dog can live like a king

Frank

Yea, thanks McCain. I'll never vote for you again, that's for sure!

arcticpam

"It's a Refuge." Thank you John McCain. Sen. Murkowski's Arctic Refuge drilling amendment would undermine the fundamental purposes for the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to preserve wilderness and wildlife. This special refuge supports over 200 species of wildlife is the ONLY part of Alaska's North Slope off limits by law to oil industry exploration and development. We need to save Alaska's treasures like this for future generations and instead repower America with clean, renewable energy and efficiency measures that will save far more energy than the Arctic Refuge ever could.
