Obama: Senator Burris fine with me

President-elect Barack Obama send a none-too-subtle message today: it’s OK now for the Democrats to let Roland Burris take Obama’s vacant Senate seat.

“You know, that is a Senate matter. But I know Roland Burris. Obviously, …he's from my home state. I think he's a fine public servant,” Obama said at the tail end of a news conference Wednesday.

“If he gets seated, then I'm going to work with Roland Burris just like I worked with all the other senators to make sure that the people of Illinois and the people of the country are served.”

Until now, Democrats have steadfastly said they’d refuse to seat Burris, since he was appinted by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, and thus somehow tainted by the allegations that Blagojevich wanted to sell the appointment. Theer’s never been any suggestion that Burris was involved as a potentital “buyer” of the seat.
