In Washington State, Madigan Army Medical Center and the Post have signed a covenant to better care for veterans. 'It comes as about 10,000 soldiers at Fort Lewis are preparing to deploy to combat in Afghanistan and Iraq this spring and summer.'
It was also signed on the 2nd anniversary of the Washington Post's series on Walter Reed and the care there. [The Olympian]
What about taking care of older vets? I just got a bill for care for my husband at Madigan 3 or 4 years ago.
The V.A. wasn't taking care of his very painful knee so I brought him to Madigan as he had TFL (he died last year.) He had a knee replacement done at Madigan and was immediately free of the pain he sufferred for many years under the poor care of the local V.A. hospital.
I don't know why but the military decided to bill the V.A. and, of course, it refused to pay as it often did if we used any facility but its.
Now, they want me to pay - from the very low widow's pension that I get.
I'm sure it must be a mistake as I don't think being under the control of the V.A. should have deprived him of the better care he received at Madigan

I'm glad the medical center is taking action and promising better care. It's very necessary.
