Cpl. Jeffrey Lucey suffered from PTSD after serving in the Marines in 2003 in Iraq. In 2004 he was discharged by the VA who said he suffered from 'alcoholism and mood swings.' He hanged himself four days later.
The VA has offered a settlement with the family. [Masslive.com]
It's the responsibility of our government to help our veterans after their service to our country. They see and experience things that are beyond what normal life has to offer. They need help.

As a Vietnam vet and VFW member I do have some experiance dealing with DVA beaurocracy. Most VA workers are hard working, caring people who are overwhelmed. A few VA people are mindless beauracrats who aren't worth the paper their paychecks are written on. VA care can range from outstanding to criminaly neglectful depending on the facility.
My VFW post and us veterans consider it our duty to be there for our brothers. We've been there so we truly do "get it". If we don't do it, who will? We're not your card playing, beer drinking post.
So fellow veterans, we've got to help our brothers now. After all, "supporting our troops" requires a lot more than a faded yellow sticker on your truck. Give a vet a job. Be there. Join a veterans organization and get involved. The nation once called us "baby killers" and fortunatly the nation is over that. But in the end it's still brothers helping brothers (and sisters too).
