A new report due to be released in San Diego "shows that more than one in seven female Iraq and Afghanistan veterans seeking VA medical care reported experiencing sexual trauma during their service." Many of them also show signs of PTSD.

Researchers at  VA Palo Alto Health Care System's National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder analyzed over 89,000 records of veterans and report on their findings. The records were for both men to women.  [Washington Post]

Following the example of Buffalo, NY, the Wisconsin Veterans Intervention Program asked Judge Robert Russell to speak on the succcess of setting up courts that deal with 'nothing but veterans.' At the court, Russell has an 'open dialogue' with the veteran vs being in opposition. There is more in the way of intervention. [Wisconsin State Journal]

After a survey of VA offices at 57 locations, roughly 500 benefit claim records were found to be in danger of being shredded. 

'The VA is now recommending that veterans - those who have not been contacted for six months or more about their claims for benefits - call their regional benefits office "to make sure the claim has been received, and everything is there," said Alison Aikele, the VA's press secretary in Washington, D.C.'

RealtyTrac, which tracks foreclosures, says that the rate of foreclosures in miliary towns is four times that of other towns. Veterans in Kansas City are feeling the pinch. Sometimes its disabilities; sometimes it's the fact that many military families were targeted for sub-prime loans. [Kansas City Star]

The new 9/11 GI Bill which was signed by the President has a deadline of 2009 for implimentation. The VA says it will have difficulty making it. [UPI and the Washington Post]

Give an Hour is a non-profit "organization links mental health professionals who donate a minimum of an hour a week for a year with returning veterans and their families." It's offered in several states. [WTAP.com}

Juan Jimenez fought in Iraq until he was wounded. His greatest frustration though is getting care for his traumatic brain injury caused by two roadside bomb explosions. Others are also facing major delays to get aid from the VA. [Press-Enterprise]

The Army Times reports that the VA has put a stop on shredding in their offices for a while. Some personal documents necessary for the claims have gotten swept into shredding piles, and the VA Secretary wants that stopped. [Army Times]

Some soldiers return from deployment and find themselves faced with foreclosures. There is help, according to Carla Douglin, in the shape of the Servicemembers´ Civil Relief Act (SCRA).  [American Chronicle]

In Utah, the VA clinic in Orem is short a doctor. This has caused a problem because the clinic only had two doctors to begin with. Many veterans feel there was a lack of planning involved.
