Soldiers distributing Bibles to Afghans?
The following video caused quite a stir around the Pentagon today after al Jazeera reporter asked Adm. Michael Mullen about it at a press conference. It shows soldiers at Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan collecting Bibles translated in Pashtun and Dari to distribute to the local population.
Here is the chairman’s response:
QUESTION: Al Jazeera has broadcast footage of U.S. servicemen at Bagram with Bibles printed in Pashtu and Dari, and those servicemen talking about distributing those Bibles to Afghans. We don't know if any of them were distributed.
What's your reaction? And what is the military going to do about this?
MULLEN: My reaction is two-fold.
One is that I'm not aware of the details of this, and certainly want to know more about it. Secondly, it certainly is, from the United States military perspective, not our position to ever push any specific kind of religion. Period.

Religious fanatics do make the best killers. The problem is that they always turn on their masters, which here is the citizens of the USA.
Allowing gays and lezbos to serve openly in the military will purge the military of this insidious threat.

Spread the Word of God. We should make love not war.

I've had some contact with such people. One of them taught my constitutional law class and kept trying to get the rest of my classmates to buy into the notion that religious speech deserves the same protection as political speech. Well, doesn't that make religion and politics the same then, and thus wouldn't churches no longer have their tax exemptions? I can wish. I also know that not all military types are Republicans, but they're certainly in the majority there as are evangelical Christians.

@borisjimbo, if you've ever had any recent experience with the US military, you'd walk away with two impressions: 1) they're all registered republicans - democrats not allowed; 2)Commander's call and Chaplain's call are co-equal mandatory formations.

These people are going to have to make a choice, either serve their country or serve their Jesus; can't have it both ways, this is too important. And do they really not realize how offensive it is for a Muslim to be proselytized to?

Onward Christian soldiers...
I'm left to assume that Adm. Mullen has never met Lt. Gen. Boykin.
