Live blogging Sotomayor: Thursday: Feinstein

"You've become an instant role model," Feinstein tells Sotomayor, adding that she considers the judge "a walking, talking" example of the best America has to offer.

"My life and what I've accomplished does serve as an inspiration," Sotomayor acknowledges. "It is one of the reasons I do so many activities."

Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein gives Sotomayor a breather by asking her to define per curiam. Coming next: Judge Sotomayor, please define this fancy pants term 'stare decisis.'

Sotomayor notes that per curiam is often used for cursory opinions.
