The shwarma crisis continues in Jordan, where The Jordan Times carried a front page story today about a young newlywed whose honeymoon was ruined by a tainted sandwich.
But in Paris, shwarma is helping to make another young man famous.
This week, the record label EMI released "Mange du kebab," a quirky single by Yilmaz Karaman, a 27-year-old Turkish immigrant who works in a sandwich shop and has embraced the stage name Lil' Maaz.
As the story goes, the song began as a kind of serenade for the regular customers at the shop where he still works. The lyrics, in French, are simple and silly.
"It's a bit of an Unidentified Flying Object," said Xavier Chevalier of EMI Marketing.
The video, seen nearly a half million times, has helped to make Lil' Maaz a star. Check it out:
You might have already read this, but the British House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee released their report on the Middle East July 25th and I just found it.
It's findings concerning Israel and the OT are interesting.
