After spending many hours in Al Anbar governors’ office two days ago and as I was I noticed four workers fixing the blast walls. They were trying to make it look better not the outer facade but on the inner one that can be seen from the building.
Approached them and after greetings asked them: So you finished rebuilding the province and it’s now the blast walls turn? That is the only thing left, right?
They laughed and said: Yes the officials did order to rebuild everything else and they want to fix these small scratches for it is the only thing left.
We laughed.
Minutes later driving back on the main road and trying to avoid all the holes on the road… My friend who was driving said if they told these workers ti fix the street but I guess that will never happen.
It is the story of this country and many others... Things need to be done are never done.
