At the beginning I want to say Ramadan Kareem for all of you.
Ramadan, the month of fasting for Muslims, started few days ago. Other than the fact that the month is supposed to be a month of worshipping and fasting, it became the month of TV shows and drama series by Arab and Muslim TV channels.
Al Sharqiya satellite channel, an Iraqi channel, is one of them.
The channel is accused by many (especially pro-government and Islamist) to be pro-Baath channel which might be true or maybe not.
This Ramadan the channel inflamed new waves of criticism and discussions among people and on Iraqi blogs.
The channel new TV show called: Abu Haqi, a very senior official sparked these accusations.
The show shows an Iraqi official, Abu Haqi, in different situations manipulating and corrupted official. The show is continuity to other shows that were aired in Ramadan in the last two years.
The critics say these shows are not only criticizing the government but it is insulting the people of Iraq in many scenes, which might be true.
The Iraqi government closed Al Sharqiya channel office in Baghdad in 2007.
If our government and politicians cannot comprehend criticism then I wonder are we ready for a democracy?
It is not only this show that make me wonder, many daily life aspects make me wonder, Are we ready for a democracy?
Not for long after the departure of the troops, we will see the naked truth about what have been achieved here. We will see if the imported democracy will succeed or it will kill itself.
Hope not.

How in the world will they ever solidify the oil contracts? It seems as if one way or another things are always in turmoil and unrest when it comes to Oil. The only way to get out of this mess is to reduce our own oil consumption and drill locally.
Meanwhile, bring our troops home!

I don't think you have to worry about the troops leaving for a while yet. Not until America has the oil contracts sewn up good and tight. Even when the majority leave, US bases will still be occupied in Iraq.
