What has been so desperately needed is to transform sad and helpless feelings into a willingness to reject extremists that still seem to control substantial portions of Baghdad and southern Iraq. Instead Americans read about key members of the Iraqi government trying to pander to and accommodate these same extremists, for whom kidnappings and far worse crimes are apparently routine. Perhaps it is time for the US to leave Iraq to the extremists, as so many in Iraq's government now seem to be demanding.

Madness. I don't have enough metaphorical hearts to donate. Please stay strong. I can't imagine what it's like to live through such a thing.

I am so sorry, Hussein. When I finished reading this post, I felt very sad and helpless, too. I hope with all my heart that she is found safe and returned to her family.

I can't think of any way to help, but want you to know that I am listening, and will keep this family and you in my prayers.

My heart is with your friend and his family, as well as with you and all their friends, Hussein. I am so sorry.
