Al Gore will campaign in Florida Friday for Barack Obama, sure to reignite memories of his own 2000 campaign and the way it ended a few hundred votes short in the Sunshine State.
Gore and wife Tpper are not just going back to Florida. They're going to West Palm Beach, site of the screwed up "butterfly" ballot that led many elderly voters to vote for Pat Buchanan instead of Gore.
"Eight years ago, Florida and the nation embarked down a failed path," said Steve Schale, Obama's state campaign director in Florida.
"This time, Floridians are hungry to right our ship and help set America on a new course by electing Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Nobody knows better that every single vote counts, especially in Florida, than Vice President Al Gore, who will be encouraging Florida voters to early vote in record numbers so no amount of chads, butterflies or undervotes can stand between Floridians and the change we need."
