Barack Obama unveils a new ad today aimed suggesting he'd use money now spent in Iraq to improve the economy at home.
"Economics by John McCain," the ad starts with the picture of an economics textbook ostensibly written by McCain.
The ad then lists what it says are McCain's economic plans:
"Support George Bush 95 percent of the time. Keep spending $10 billion a month for the war in Iraq. While the Iraqis sell oil for record prices. Giving Iraq a $79 billion oil surplus and hurting our economy."
It counters with what it calls Obama's plan:
"End the war responsibly. Better schools. No more tax breaks for oil companies. Barack Obama, the middle class first."
There are a few problems with the ad.
First, it implies that Obama will save that $10 billion a month by ending the Iraq war. But he would keep many troops in Iraq. That would cost money.
Second, he would transfer more troops to Afghanistan. That would take more of that money.
The ad air in 16 states: Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.
