Most likely 27 is a bad number in this particular temple because of the numerical sequence of Fortune-Telling comments listed in their book.

Just like playing with I-Ching, the outcome of the coins throws give a number and the interpretations are listed in the book sequentially.

In this case, the number 27 matches the "worst omen" entries.

Superstition is a common human trait, thus their belief in a all-knowing all-seeing all-loving all-present God.
